IT Scholarship

Please join us in congratulating the recipients of the 2008 IT Scholarships.  Each will receive $500 scholarships through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships this Fall.
 
Jessica Conlen is the daughter of Randy Herington, a Technology Resources (TR) employee. Jessica is pursuing her dream to become a successful financial planner. In her letters of recommendation, she received praise for her talent, strength, positive outlook, compassion, and leadership qualities. Jessica was described as a rare person whose drive for success stems from a deep place within.
 
Amanda Dasher is the granddaughter of Josie Castillo from Alkek Library. Amanda, who is presently a high school senior, will have 12 college credits when she begins college this fall. She wants to be an attorney. Amanda received praise for her self-motivation, thoughtfulness, and her ability to stay focused on her goals. Amanda was described as a capable, ambitious, determined, and a delightful young person.
 
Salwa Khan works for Instructional Technologies Support (ITS). For the past three years, Salwa has been a consultant and teacher, supporting Texas State faculty who want to learn how to create media for their courses. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education. Her lists of accomplishments, honors, and productions are to her credit as she continues her education. Salwa was described as a person who contributes to the learning of others through sharing of her perspectives and unique experiences.
 
Kathy McMains is the wife of Sean McMains from ITS. She was one of the 2007 IT Scholarship recipients. Kathy continues to expand her education in hopes of graduating with a degree in Recreational Administration, which will allow her to work in a facility that treats individuals with disabilities. Kathy was described as an exceptional young woman, mother, and student who is outgoing and dynamic.
 
Renee Ness is an employee in ITS. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Studies and hopes to merge her personal, professional, and academic interest to develop and facilitate collaboration projects between non-governmental organizations doing important humanitarian work throughout the world. Renee was described as a person who is not only qualified, but inspires others. This is a rare quality in graduate programs which people typically think of as competitive.
 
Megan Young is the daughter of Randy Young from TR. She will begin her sophomore year at Texas State this Fall. Megan is pursuing her dream of getting a pharmaceutical degree and one day running her own pharmacy. She received praises for her confidence and work ethic. One of her references stated she is bright, innovative, and able to accomplish any task.
 
Thank you all for giving generously to the IT Scholarship Fund. Without your generosity, the IT Scholarship Committee would be unable to award scholarships to these deserving students.
 

Scholarship Rules

Complete rules and selection process can be found in the official application packet. What follows is a summary.

Overview

  • The IT Division offers at least one annual scholarship in the amount of $500 to be paid each Fall through the Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • A committee comprised of divisional employees review applications and recommend recipients.
  • The scholarship is funded entirely through charitable contributions.
  • Recipients who fail to maintain thier eligibility as described in the official application packet may forfeit any future eligibility and may be required to fully reimburse the IT Division Scholarship Fund.

Eligibility

  • Eligible applicants must be an IT Division staff member or the spouse, child, grandchild, or legal ward of a staff member.
  • Staff members must have been employed at least six consecutive months prior to the application deadline to be eligible, or for family member eligibility.
  • Staff members must be enrolled in at least six semester hours at Texas State for the upcoming Fall semester; Family members of IT staff must be enrolled in 12 semester hours at Texas State for the upcoming Fall semester. 
  • Applicants who have completed college hours must have a GPA of 2.75 or greater.
  • Entering freshmen must have graduated in the upper quarter of their high school graduating class.
  • Recipients may only receive the scholarship twice.
